Drake and Lil Wayne inspire The Arctic Monkeys

To anyone who ever wondered if the Arctic Monkeys appreciate a little hip hop, the answer is yes. Alex Turner recently sat down with NME to discuss the band’s newest single, “R U Mine,” and let readers in on a little secret – some of the lyrics were inspired by Lil Wayne and Drake. Turner explains, “I like that thing they do where they talk about something backwards, so they talk about it but then say what it actually is on the next line. It's hard to explain but I guess it's a little nod to that idea.” So instead of “It’s going down, basement,” the band used “‘I'm a puppet on a string', just before mentioning Tracy Island” on the track. According to Alex, it’s to create “uncertainty” within the song.
